Earlier I had written a post on fish care and some detail about Vastu fish for home. Some readers of pet care tips.in requested that they wanted to know more about how arowana fishto care for Arowana Fish and food for Arowana fish, so here you go.

If you are looking to own one of those exotic fishes like Arowana Fish also known as Dragon Fish then read further. Did you know that Arowana Fish is also known to bring good luck and wealth as per Feng Shui/Vastu. Just having an Arowana Fish Lucky does not guarantee you good luck and wealth. The proper upkeep of the fish is also an important part of bringing you luck and wealth.

Arowanas can grow as long as 3 feet to 4 feet, and if you are planning to have an Arowana fish then you should consider the space needed for a bigger aquarium. If you do not have the space and still want to have the benefits of Arowana fish for Vastu/feng shui remedies then you can consider 8 goldfish plus a blackfish as an alternative. You can read more of the same on Vastu fish for home.

Feeding and Care of Arowana Fish

Arowana fish food

Arowanas are carnivorous and prefer live food. But too much live food can build up fat and decrease the longevity of your  Arowanas. Some of the best-known live food include small fish, small frogs, shrimp, prawns, crickets, and krill. Before feeding Arowana fish food, make sure that these are quarantined to avoid the introduction of parasites to your fish.

Caring

As Arowanas have the tendency to swim fast you must ensure to have any sharp objects on its way. You can also simulate a fast flowing water that will discourage it from rubbing against the glass. Arowanas tend to look downwards most often and end up having droopy eyes; to avoid this you can put a brightly colored ping pong ball in the aquarium to distract its attention. Arowana’s are very sensitive to water condition and you should consider investing on good filtration system. They also have a tendency to jump so consider investing on a well hooded aquarium.

Arowana fish also has tendency to get anchor worm and the below medicine works effectively.

Ocean Free “O” Anchor Worm and Fish Lice

In my community tank I noticed few of my fishes infected with Anchor worm. It started to spread to other fishes too. After doing different treatments and nothing working out, I bought this product. As per the instruction in product, I added the medicine to water and changed water every 2 days. In 3 days I could see the adult anchor worms anchored to the fish going into dormant state. I thought the worms died and removed them manually(check in you tube how to do this). At that point I thought my tank has been cleared of the anchor worms. But to my surprise few days later I saw small anchor worms again on the body of the fish. I was horrified and did some deep analysis on the life cycle of anchor worms. Finally came to know that the they go into different cope pod (not visible to naked eye) stage before turning into an adult worm. Their life cycle is for a month (egg to adult) So to break the life cycle I reduced the water to 25% and added the medicine every 3 days after changing some water for a month. At the end of a month, I refilled my tank to its full capacity and was observing for any sign of anchor worm. I didn’t find any worm for a week. A big sigh of relief. At last my tank was free of anchor worm. After that incident I inspect the fish a lot before I buy from aquarium. Also I quarantine the fishes I get before adding to main tank.

Conclusion

Keeping arowanas as a pet is a challenge and is not recommended for beginners.  Talk with owners who already have arowanas and design the aquarium accordingly.
