Pedigree food main ingredient consists of Corn, and Corn does not add much significant value for a dog’s nutrition. We can ignore nutrition of Corn as it is very minimal.
The second ingredient of Pedigree dog food is Poultry by-products. Poultry by-products can contain anything from feet, beaks, undeveloped eggs apart from the real meat like chicken breast or wings or legs. The advantage of this is the by-products give around 300% of more protein than fresh poultry.
The third ingredient of Pedigree dog food consists of Corn gluten meal which is made of around 60% of protein. Corn gluten meal is a rubbery residue which is the remains after corn has been washed off its starchy carbohydrate. Although Corn gluten has got around 60% protein; its nutritional value is lesser than the meat product.
The fourth ingredient of Pedigree dog food consists of animal fat. This can be of any animal and there is no mention of the source of animal fat anywhere in their website.
The fifth ingredient of Pedigree dog food consists of meat and bone meal. Again this can be of any animal and there is no mention of the source of animal fat anywhere in their website. It is a dry rendered product from mammal tissues, bone. This has got a lower digestibility.
Nutritional value of Pedigree
There are probably lot of pet dogs who have only eaten Pedigree foods the entire life and have lived without any problems. But we think Pedigree dog food does not add much nutritional value. In case you can extend your budget then there are lot of better dog foods in India that gives more nutritional value for the price.
Pedigree is mainly a plant based product than a meat based product. This mainly consists of vegetable based proteins than relying on meat based proteins. I would rate 2 out 5 rating for Pedigree dog foods.

Considering the grain content in the food we feel many people who feed their dogs pedigree are feeding half the food which cannot be easily digested by the dogs. Most of these undigested dog foods end up as large poops. If you are scooping a lot of dog poop it is because your dog is not able to digest its food easily. So watch out for the poop.
However, remember no dog food can replace the best and fresh home made food for dogs. So choose wisely and consult with your dog’s veterinarian before choosing any dog food.
